What
does clearcut
logging in Mt. Hood have in common with homelessness in Portland? Both
are reason for radical, systemic change. Neither will change without a
people's movement. (If you don't have a group already, come to Cluster
Up! April 3rd)Registration has closedObservers
are welcome to attend the event which is being held at the First
Unitarian Church at 1011 Southwest 12th Avenue. Doors open at 9:30 and
we may go as late as 5pm.
In June
2010, people from around the Americas will assemble in Detroit for the US Social Forum. In
order to prepare, activists living near Portland are gathering together
for a People's Movement
Assembly on Saturday, May 8th. This local gathering
will:
- Bring people together in
an effort to promote collaboration and collective action between different
struggles,
- Identify some of our common solutions to
the economic and ecological crisis that we are facing today,
- Provide structure to discussions about
what we want represented in Detroit at the larger Forum.
We need YOU!
At the People's Movement Assembly in Portland we hope to have a broad
representation of grassroots-committed, people-driven groups helping to create a list of proposed resolutions for
the
larger national movement to consider, incorporate and activate. Will
you be there?
